Morning Glory discusses Cardinal McCarrick with Dr. Matthew Bunson of @NCRegister

Morning Glory discussed the breaking news out of the Vatican–with Cardinal McCarrick resigning amidst allegations of sexual abuse with Dr. Matthew Bunson of the National Catholic Register. Monsignor Charles Pope gave us his Godly Counsel on what we can do as Catholics to discuss these issues that are hitting our church and homes.. Monsignor also shared this beautiful ‘Love Letter to the Church’ by Carlo Carretto:

“How much I must criticize you, my church, and yet how much I love you!

You have made me suffer more than anyone and yet I owe more to you than to anyone. I should like to see you destroyed and yet I need your presence. You have given me much scandal and yet you alone have made me understand holiness.

Never in this world have I seen anything more compromised, more false, yet never have I touched anything more pure, more generous or more beautiful. Countless times I have felt like slamming the door of my soul in your face – and yet, every night, I have prayed that I might die in your sure arms!

No, I cannot be free of you, for I am one with you, even if not completely you. Then to where would I go? To build another church? But I could not build one without the same defects, for they are my defects. And again, if I were to build another church, it would be my church, not Christ’s church. No, I am old enough, I know better.”

—Carlo Carretto

The team also looked at the problem of Loneliness and our Catholic response with Dr. Kevin Vost. A 2018 Cigna study of 20,000 Americans found that most people consider themselves “lonely,” based on the UCLA Loneliness Scale, a widely adopted academic measure used to gauge loneliness. Nearly half of those people reported feeling alone or left out, while more than 40 percent of said they feel as though they lack companionship, that their relationships are not meaningful, and that they’re isolated from others. Dr. Vost shares a great deal of wisdom drawing on our Catholic faith in his new book: The Catholic Guide To Loneliness.. Check out more info here.

Our good friend ‘surfer-priest’ Father Donald Calloway talks the importance of pilgrimage with guest co-host Elizabeth Ficocelli! He’s planning a pilgrimage to Rome and Malta early next year–and plans on sharing our most powerful spiritual weapon–the ROSARY–with everyone he travels with–and meets. Father is also leading a Holy Land pilgrimage next Spring with Catholic actor Jim Caviezel, known for his powerful portrayal of Jesus in Mel Gibson’s The Passion. Find out more information about Father’s conversion to Catholicism and his upcoming pilgrimages, by visiting this site.

Make sure to join us tomorrow morning as we visit with Father Edward Looney LIVE from the Catholic Marketing Network Conference in Philadelphia! We’ll be celebrating Saint Ignatius looking at a new Ignatian Prayer Series with Carol Weiler! Find us on your local EWTN radio affiliate or Sirius channel 130!..

Morning Glory talks Judge Kavanaugh with legal eagle Shannen Coffin!

Morning Glory is always fun with Father Bjorn Lundberg EVERY Thursday! We discussed a recent Pew Study on cohabitation as it’s skyrocketed 82 percent in the last 20 years! Last month, the Institute for Family Studies (IFS) discussed a study on cohabitation released by the Centers for Disease Control’s National Center for Health Statistics. The IFS concluded that 64.5% of participants in a study of Americans age 18-44 had “cohabited with a romantic partner at some point outside of marriage.” Read more about the study here.

We also talked pro-life Congresswoman Diane Black’s run for Governor of Tennessee with Marjorie Dannenfelser of the SBA List. The Honorable Congresswoman has a staunch pro-life record. Black says: “As a nurse, fighting for the unborn has always been an issue that is near and dear to my heart.” Rep. Black has spoken on the House floor in defense of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. SBA List staff watched as she and other members of Congress spoke eloquently about the legislation, which would stop abortions at 20 weeks, more than halfway through pregnancy, a point by which science proves a baby can feel pain. One of many memorable quotes from Rep. Black included: “Sadly, while we celebrate advances in technology that prove life has value and worth before leaving the hospital, we also continue to be one of only seven nations that allow elective, late-term abortions. Basic decency and human compassion demands that something has to change.”

Legal eagle Shannen Coffin joined with more on what it will take to get Judge Brett Kavanaugh confirmed as a Supreme Court justice. As Chair of Appellate Litigation at Steptoe & Johnson in DC, Former Counsel to Vice President Cheney, AND as a Former Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department, Coffin has a long seasoned professional career within all matters of law–and speaks fiercely about his strong Catholic faith.

Make sure to join us tomorrow on a fun ‘Finally Friday’ Morning Glory as we go across the pond to Ireland and visit with our dear friend Dom Benedict Andersen of the Silverstream Priory–and we discuss the important work of Encourage with a couple working directly in the ministry–all on EWTN radio!

Pax,

Shawn Carney joins Morning Glory to talk March for Life UK!…

Morning Glory kicks off a new week with Monsignor Charles Pope, Dr. Matthew Bunson, and Elizabeth Ficocelli! We discuss a new study showing millennials ‘waiting’ as opposed to promiscuous behavior. Elizabeth polled her millennial son who says he thinks its the fear of rejection that is helping young men wait. Monsignor adds a moral compass to the conversation, pointing to the hyper-sexualized culture we now live in.

The best and the worst of Catholic higher education are once again on public display, as America’s Catholic colleges announce their spring commencement speakers and honorary degree recipients. As many Catholic colleges have chosen to honor individuals who publicly oppose the Church’s moral teachings, Patrick Reilly of Cardinal Newman Society tells us this choice risks confusion and scandal—a direct contradiction to the mission of Catholic colleges. It does great harm to the unity of the Church and endangers the souls of the faithful. The Cardinal Newman Society has catalogued the ‘best and worst’ of the commencement season with a look at some of the greatest picks–and ones that might need more discernment. Check out the list HERE

And finally Shawn Carney, President of 40 Days for Life joined to share his thoughts on the March for Life UK this past weekend. With thousands joining in London, we discussed the pro-life movement–and why it may have taken awhile for Europe to join in.. See his work at http://www.40DaysforLife.com!
